WHERE TO GO IN 2025

We predict you'll soon be hearing a lot more about these on-the-rise destinations in Italy, California, Slovenia and Colombia, that are all still blissfully authentic.
WHERE TO GO IN 2025

MADAGASCAR - TO HAVE A BEACH/ISLAND TO YOURSELF

Opening this winter, Voaara is a new barefoot luxury beach resort on the pristine beach of Sainte-Marie, an island off of Madagascar's east coast. Each of Voaara’s 8 accommodations were designed to make the most of their privileged location. The feeling is both rustic and luxurious, a combination of modern ideas and local materials that make the buildings blend seamlessly into the landscape. Guests can enjoy the humpback whale sightings right from the beach, surfing a forgotten break, diving with a marine biologist, native communities and more (including lemurs, of course).

SLOVENIA - FOR THE ALPINE AIR

From hiking in the Julian Alps to visiting biodynamic wineries of “Slovenian Tuscany” of Goriska Brda, Slovenia is perfect for nature-loving explorers and those interested in sustainable travel – and its gaining in popularity, so now is the time to get there before becomes fully discovered.

The landscape is predominantly Alpine with forests covering 66% of the country, yet it packs a punch because the relatively small country (about the size of Massachusetts) has a diverse landscape of mountains, lakes, green hills and dramatic valleys, plus charming small towns and a coastline on the Adriatic Sea.

Our Slovenia expert, Ivana Tomic, founder of Journey2Slovenia recommends experiences like these:

  • Experience the power of nature in the Soča Valley and its local culture and cuisine by foraging for herbs and meet cheese artisans of the area before preparing with your chef/guide the local dish called fritaja.

  • Take a day-long hike, with lunch at a mountain hut, through the stunning Seven Triglav Lakes region, an area of importance for Slovenians.

  • Hike among one of the few traditional herdsmen settlements in Europe.

  • Exploring the many art nouveau influences in the capital city of Ljubljana’s Old Town.

COLOMBIA - FOR THE DIVING

Colombia has the world’s second-highest biodiversity (after Brazil), and unspoiled beaches and archeological sites to discover. Our Colombia expert, Brian Schon of True Colombia Travel shares a couple of favorite emerging spots at the moment:

Isla de Providencia

Stay in some of the most exclusive villas on this hidden Caribbean island that features the third largest coral reef in the world. Providencia Island is perfect for divers, snorkelers, beach-lovers, and people interested in exploring places their friends have never even heard about.

San Agustín
One of the oldest and most important archeological sites in the Americas is located in the south of Colombia, where a collaboration between Colombia, the University of Pittsburgh, and archeologists across the world delves into a mysterious pre-modern era culture that left giant stone figures behind to study. The gorgeous region also features some of the best quality coffee in Colombia, and almost no tourists in what should be an absolute hot-spot. It's the perfect time to visit!

THE DOLOMITES - TO BEAT THE OLYMPICS

Get to the Dolomites before the winter Olympics do in 2026. Lefay Resort & Spa, Dolomiti recently announced a new medically-based indoor/outdoor wellness program that makes use of the beautiful, UNESCO-heritage-site nature surrounding it, for hiking and cold-plunging in mountain streams and other outdoor activities that compliment treatments in its spa, which, incidentally, is the largest in the alpine region at 53,000 square feet. The skiing is amazing, too, pe.PR can attest.

MENDOCINO, CALIFORNIA - TO SEE THE NIGHT SKY

Escape from the light pollution all around us to truly see the stars at The Inn at Newport Ranch, which is now dark-sky certified by the International Dark Sky Places program which aims to preserve and protect views of the night sky. The Inn offers a prime spot for stargazing on its 2,000-acre private preserve along the Mendocino Coast in Northern California along the longest stretch of private coastline in the state. The Inn itself was recently featured on the Magnolia Network show, Bespoke Inns because of its unique design incorporating felled redwoods from the property.

ST. LUCIA - FOR WELLNESS IN THE JUNGLE

Pioneering St. Lucia resort, Ladera – the first on the island with an open-fourth-wall design, and the only perched on a volcanic ridge within the Piton Mountain range – is about to unveil a new wellness center in early 2025, with treatments incorporating herbs from its lush tropical gardens. It's the final piece in the resort's total refresh which includes new room decor, new restaurant concepts (including a traditional fish fry around its pool and a new rum bar), and new St. Lucian experiences hosted by its long-time staff, some of whom are 2nd-generation Ladera employees.

SAAS-FEE, SWITZERLAND - FOR GLACIER HIKES & BRAGGING RIGHTS

Let the masses go to Zermatt. Saas-Fee is an authentic, pedestrian-only village that's still an in-the-know Swiss mountain town. But those in the know, know that the skiing is top-notch with guaranteed snow because of the area's glaciers, which are easily accessible for a dramatic hiking experience.

The Capra is a new-in-2024 5-star, boutique property with just 34 rooms, modern Alpine charm and a multi-million-dollar spa.
